Rally Detail

The first thing you need to know about this rally is that you are going to have way too much fun.

LODGING CLARIFICATION:

As you are making lodging reservations, please keep in mind that you will need sleeping rooms in 3 different locations for 4 nights as follows:
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23rd: St George, Utah - All of the rally activities occur between the host hotel, Holiday Inn Express, and Zion Harley-Davidson in Washington, UT (about 7 miles north of St George.
THURSDAY, JUNE 24th: Page, Arizona - All of the rally activities take place at the host hotel at the Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, JUNE 25th & 26th: Ignacio/Durango, Colorado - You will need 2 nights lodging here. Bike games and most of the other evening activities will take place at the Sky Ute Casino Resort, our host hotel in Ignacio, and at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds, adjacent to the resort. However, due to space availability, the majority of the lodging is located in Durango where the bulk of the nightlife, pubs and restaurants are located. Free shuttles will be provided by the Sky Ute Casino & Resort shuttle buses between Ignacio and their regular stops in Durango and one extra stop between the Super 8 and Comfort Inn. Additionally, a complimentary casino shuttle will be provided to rally attendees that request transportation to their downtown area Durango hotels. The shuttle will not be available after midnight or early morning hours.

IMPORTANT: If you do not presently have an annual or senior National Parks Pass, please consider saving yourself a lot of extra fees and frustration by purchasing one either before you leave home, or at the first National Park or Recreation Area we visit during the rally (see below for details).

NATIONAL PARKS PASS: Due to the many opportunities you will have to visit at least 4 National Parks/Recreation Areas, we strongly suggest that you purchase the $80 annual Interagency National Parks Pass. Valid for 12 months from purchase date. This pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity Fee. The pass admits the pass holder/s and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas. At per person fee areas, it admits the pass holder + 3 adults. The pass can be obtained in person at National Park entrance stations, via the Internet at http://store.usgs.gov/pass or by calling 1-888-ASK-USGS, Extension 1.

FOR SENIORS: The Interagency Senior Pass is $10. Valid for life. This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. This pass provides access to, and use of Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity Fee. The pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder plus 3 adults at per person fee areas

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23rd: The rally kickoff location begins on Wednesday afternoon in the expanded parking lot of the Zion Harley-Davidson Shop in Washington, Utah (approx 7 miles North of St. George), with a meet & greet party that includes a bike show, a dealer hosted BBQ and opening ceremonies.

THURSDAY, JUNE 24th: We depart the St. George area with a destination of Page, Arizona. There are several self-guided routes that you may choose from including Hwy 9 through the "tunnel" in Zion National Park, Hwy 59 through Colorado City, and Hwy 67 to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, or any combination of the three. PLEASE NOTE: Beginning in March 2010 a major road rehabilitation project will take place on State Route 9 between Canyon Junction and the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel. This road work will cause many delays and some temporary closures. More details will be posted on this website as they become available.

Thursday evening we will enjoy the amenities at the Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas, located inside the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area ($7.50 per person entrance fee unless you have a National Parks Pass) as we bask on the lakeside beach and enjoy the breathtaking landscape of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. You may even want to take in an evening dinner cruise on the lake.

FRIDAY, JUNE 25th: In the morning we depart Page along Hwy 98 and Hwy 160 on a self-guided ride through Kayenta, then on to the only place in the United States where four states intersect at one point: the Four Corners Monument located on land owned by the Navajo Nations and managed by the Navajo Parks & Recreation. Admission to the monument is $3.00 per person (all ages). We recommend that you have plenty of water, food, snacks, hand wipes and extra toiletries when visiting. The area is very remote, no running water, no electricity, no telephones. Picnic tables and self-contained restrooms are available. Services and accommodations are very limited to small cafes, grocery stores and self-service gasoline stations within a 30 mile radius.

Leaving Four Corners we will travel through Cortez and skirt past the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park, which offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300. Today, the park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States. It's definitely worth your time to visit while in the Durango area.

Friday evening you will have time to explore downtown Durango night life with its many restaurants & pubs, as well as hang out at our host site, the Sky Ute Casino Resort in Ignacio, about 22 miles southeast of downtown Durango. The Sky Ute Casino Resort offers (5) restaurants, live entertainment, and bowling, poker and slots tournaments.

SATURDAY, JUNE 26th: Today will be a another full day of activities, including bike games at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds in Ignacio, and some of the most amazing riding adventures you will ever experience on two-wheels. We recommend you start your day early and ride the San Juan Loop north out of Durango on the aptly named "Million Dollar Highway" to Silverton, Ouray, and Ridgway, then West on Hwy 62 to Hwy 145 to Telluride, then to Dolores, then take Hwy 184 and Hwy 160 back to Durango. Closing ceremonies that evening at the Sky Ute Casino Resort in Ignacio.
